All teams on the Rickshaw Run must raise a minimum of £1000 for charity, at least £500 of which goes to the official charity: Cool Earth.

Cool Earth works with local communities to protect rainforests from being cut down acre by acre.

We decided that we would also like to donate to a charity local to southeast London. Claire encountered St Christopher’s Hospice while working in the Emergency Department at King’s College Hospital. We all agreed that the hospice would be a truly worthy cause for us to support.

As we’ve already reached our fundraising target for Cool Earth (thank you Rickshaw Run Dinner & Dancing guests), we’re now focusing all our efforts on St Christopher’s. Please give generously by clicking on the JustGiving button.

We are covering all our own costs, so every penny you donate will go directly to the hospice.

St Christopher’s Hospice exists to promote and provide skilled and compassionate palliative care of the highest quality. Their vision is of a world in which all dying people and those close to them have access to appropriate care and support, when they need it, wherever they need it and whoever they are.

The hospice serve a diverse population of 1.5 million people in the London boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, reaching some of England’s most deprived areas. All their care is provided free of charge.

St Christopher’s care services are delivered in a range of settings including patients’ own homes, four inpatient wards and their Anniversary Centre.  Their palliative care is delivered by coordinated teams of specialist doctors and nurses; physiotherapists and occupational therapists; social workers and welfare support workers and also includes adult bereavement services psychiatrist support; arts and complementary therapies; spiritual and religious care; and specialist support for bereaved children.

St Christopher’s is a registered charity.

It costs over £15 million every year to deliver all their services.  Only about one third of their income comes from the NHS. They must raise more than £10 million to continue to deliver their patient and family services free of charge. The hospice relies on donations to continue caring for dying people and those close to them.
